Day One

The Platte Canyon Debrief
Stacy Avila was the lead negotiator for Jeffco Regional SWAT at the Platte Canyon shooting. She and Mr. Keyes present a riveting account of the day Mr. Keyes lost his daughter, Emily. The point-counterpoint of their actions on that day are only part of the story. The positive outcomes and protocols that are a result of this tragedy are impacting schools across the US and Canada.

Day Two

Standard Reunification Method

Introduced in 2012, the Standard Reunification Method fills a critical void in school safety planning: How to reunite students with their parents after a crisis.
SRM Session introduces the concepts and history of the SRM and how to implement the program from a district and law enforcement perspective.

John-Michael Keyes

For over a decade, John-Michael Keyes has represented The "I Love U Guys" Foundation to districts, departments, agencies and organizations regarding school safety. Prior to that, his career has spanned graphic design, communications, writing, software and database development. The death of his daughter, Emily, at the hands of a gunman at Platte Canyon High School compelled Mr. Keyes to bring his professional expertise to the arena of school safety. Today, Mr. Keyes travels across the nation, and beyond, to share his story and The Foundation’s programs that are being used in over 50,000 schools, agencies and organizations across the country.

Officer Stacy Avila (Retired)

In 1995, she graduated from the University of Wyoming with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Administration of Justice and an emphasis in Psychology and Sociology.

Stacy was a police officer for the City of Arvada, Colorado for twenty-one years and during her tenure served as a Field Training Officer, Patrol Sergeant, and Hostage Negotiator.

Stacy served as a negotiator on the Jefferson County Regional SWAT team for fifteen years and was the primary negotiator at Platte Canyon High School on September 27, 2006.
